First Presbyterian Church Has Something for You!

1. Rally Day: With the beginning of each new school year, we rally together for a wonderful breakfast, teacher and student recognition and promotions.

2. Bibles: Each spring we purchase New Adventure Bibles for 3 rd graders and present them on Mother's day or youth Sunday. Our hope is that the more youth-friendly Bible will encourage children to read the Bible more. Also, then Sunday School teachers encourage them to bring their Bible each Sunday.

3. Children's Bulletins: Special bulletins are mad available for children during the worship service

4. Children's Worship: Children come to the Sanctuary for the first part of worship, and then are dismissed to the Fellowship Hall for a lesson/activity. Sometimes they even make the bread for the communion services.

5. Vacation Bible School : Usually held of the evenings for one week during the summer. Typically, Sunday-Thursday. For the past two years we have held it with White Oak pond and First Christian churches, and we are planning to do that again this year.

6. Christmas Pageant: We typically have this event on a night other than Sunday to allow more of the preschool children to be involved.

7. Easter Event: We like to have an Easter event each year.  It has grown from a responsive reading, to a activity where they create the Easter cross to a full-blown journey through the CLC this past year.

8. Christmas float: We have done this for several years.  It is a time for the children to have fun and fellowship together and show our presence in this community.

9. Confirmation: Is held in the spring every few years for 6th -8th graders. Kitty Shew typically leads this important event for the children of this church, with them meeting the session and joining the church in May. We give them a Bible Dictionary during the service.

10. Sunday School: provided for ages 2-102 (at least!) It is held from 9:45 - 10:45 each Sunday.  See below for the classes we offer.

11. Seasonal events:We have had Valentine's, Thanksgiving and Halloween events in the past, either during Sunday School or on Wednesday nights.

13. Child care: On Sundays and Wednesdays we provide child care, so families can come to church without worrying about their little one. Our staff are CPR trained and very kind and caring with the children.

14. Acolytes: Children are encouraged to serve as acolytes for the worship service.

15. Advent Wreath: The Sunday school classes light the Advent candles during the advent season.

16. Youth Group: Usually held on Sunday nights for Middle and High School students.

17. Summer camps: Scholarships are provided for the children and youth to go to Burnamwood each year.

18. Youth Lounge: We have a Youth Lounge in with the Children's library to allow the youth to have a place on Wednesday nights to be able to do homework and hang out.

19. Children's choirs and chimes: Lessons are provided by the church and the children participate in worship service.
